In some cultures, wearing bright red shoes is a sign of wealth, respect and prominence. At FX, Mat is routinely flogged for it. And yet, he refuses to change his ways. His fierce independence comes from a childhood lived on the road. He was raised by his uncle who was blessed with one human hand and one lobster hand, allowing him a lifetime of guaranteed income as a circus freak. They traveled the globe together settling only for a few months a year in Gibsonton, FL. Mat learned to fend for himself on the road. He still carries a homemade shiv made from the jaw bone of a wild boar in his sock. Mat may not have been blessed with a lobster hand like his uncle, but he was blessed with intense creativity. And, his work as an VFX artist is some of the best on the planet.
