What could be better than shooting 5K at 120fps?

Shooting with our vintage Leica R lenses. This week we received our long overdue Canon Ti Mount for the Epic cameras. This is exciting because we can finally put our Leica R lenses modded with the Leitax Canon mounts to work on the Epic. We chose Leitax’s mounts as they are solid and mount right on top of the existing Leica mount. Should we ever choose to convert these back, its as simple as replacing 5 screws. That may happen some day if Leica releases the long rumored Leica R Digital camera…but until then we will enjoy these FF35mm beauties on our 5K Epics.

Remember what it was like waiting for Christmas when you were a kid. Well, that’s how it’s been around DFX as we have waited all year for this stocking stuffer. The first of three Epic-X’s has arrived. The Epic-X is the first production model of Red’s Epic Digital Cinema Camera to ship. We have been working with and renting the limited edition, hand assembled, Epic-M’s. We have had much success, but it’s great to now get the production line model in our inventory.

It all started a five years ago with our first Red One camera shown here. We were one of the original 100 owners of the innovative RED One…As a very early adopter we gained unrivaled experience with this new breed of digital cinema cameras, our  first Red One is serial number 83. The new Epic-X has a matching #83 serial number. Our Red cameras have shot all over the world, on dozens of feature films, hundreds of television commercials and a variety of television shows including National Geograpic where our Epic recently returned from the rugged  tundra of Alaska.

We currently have three Epics available.

Now that we have our Epic-M in our hands, we just couldn’t keep it to ourselves. This camera is so drool-worthy, we had to share the love. Our studio manager, Dave Coner, did the honors with a hands-on review of the Epic-M. And, by the way, we shot the video on a Red One. Yes, we know, why bother with something as simple as a web video? Because we’re Digital FX, we can’t help ourselves. When you have the toys, you might as well use them. Video is below, enjoy!
